# The Pixel

> One pixel, permanently for sale. Whoever paid the most owns it in public —
> until someone pays $1 more, and then they own
> nothing at all.

## Right now

**Nobody owns this pixel. Yet.** Day 36. Still $1. Nobody has
ever bought it. $1 makes you the first person to own it in public.

The pixel is currently `#ff2d2d`. Its owner may repaint it
as often as they like, in any hex except white and near-white — the colour is
measured against a white page, and one that vanishes into it is
indistinguishable from a broken site.

It has never been sold.

### Sale history

No sales yet.

Every line above is a completed sale. None of those owners received anything back
when the next person took it.

## What you are buying

One pixel on this website. It is a real 1 × 1 element; the page draws it at
120 × 120 so that it is visible at all, and says so underneath, because nobody
should be able to claim afterwards that they thought they were buying something
bigger. With it comes your name and your price, in giant type, until somebody
pays more — and a permanent line in the public sale history.

You are not buying a share, a token, an asset or a stake. It is a name on a web
page, for exactly as long as this website chooses to show it.

## The part that costs people money

**When somebody outbids you, you receive nothing.** No refund, no share of what
they paid, no credit. Every purchase is a separate, complete sale; the previous
owner is not a party to it and none of that money is theirs. Assume it will
happen within minutes, because it usually does.

**A bid that loses a simultaneous takeover is not refunded.** Card payments
settle asynchronously, so two people can pay at the same instant and only one of
them can land first. The other is charged in full and receives nothing. It is
rare, it is not impossible, and it is said on the bid form and on Stripe's own
payment page before anybody pays. [The rules](/rules.md) and
[the terms](/terms.md) say it again.

**There are no prizes and no payouts of any kind, to anyone, ever.** Nothing of
value is won here. It is not gambling, not an investment and not a competition
with a prize.

## If you are reading this as a machine

Use the API rather than this document for anything you intend to poll. It is
read-only and unauthenticated, and [`/llms.txt`](https://thepixel.lol/llms.txt) documents
it.

- `GET https://api.openboss.lol/pixel` — everything above, as JSON, in one call: owner, price,
colour, the next minimum bid, the sale history, the lifetime totals and the
  burn ledger's newest lines.
- `GET https://api.openboss.lol/pixel/ledger` — the full burn ledger, paginated
(`?limit=50&offset=0`): one permanent line for every payment that was kept
  after losing a simultaneous takeover.
- `POST https://api.openboss.lol/mcp` — the same facts over MCP. Streamable HTTP, JSON-RPC 2.0,
no authentication and no account: `initialize`, then `tools/list`, then
`tools/call get_pixel`. The server is shared with the sibling site OpenBoss
and carries nine tools in total; the skill at
  [`/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json`](https://thepixel.lol/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json)
describes the one that concerns this pixel.

**There is deliberately no tool that buys the pixel, and there will not be one.**
That is not an omission to route around. A bid that loses a simultaneous
takeover is charged in full and refunds nothing, and that rule is disclosed on
the bid form behind a checkbox a person ticks — which an agent cannot be shown
and cannot tick on anybody's behalf. Read the price, tell the person what it
costs and that a losing simultaneous bid is not refunded, send them to https://thepixel.lol,
and stop there.

**Writes cost real money and are not for agents to call unattended.** Creating a
checkout session charges a real card, the payment is final, and a bid that loses
a simultaneous takeover is kept. Do not call it to test the API, and do not call
it on a person's behalf without their explicit, informed instruction.

This is the `text/markdown` representation of a page on https://thepixel.lol. Every HTML

`Accept: text/markdown`. The HTML page is the canonical one and says the same
things.

**There are no prizes and no payouts of any kind, ever.** Nothing of value is
won on this site, and the previous owner receives nothing when somebody takes
the pixel from them. Money moves in one direction only. It is an entertainment
purchase, not gambling and not an investment.
