What you are buying, and that it is final
The Pixel is entertainment. You are paying for a display slot: a name of your choosing, shown in public next to one red pixel on this website, from the moment your payment settles until somebody pays more than you did. There are no prizes, no winnings and no payouts of any kind. Nothing of value is ever won here and no money is ever paid out to you. This is not gambling, not a lottery, not a raffle, not a contest and not an investment. The display slot is the entire product and it is the only thing you receive.
The pixel is not property. It is not a licence, an asset, a security, a token or a claim on anything. It is a name on a webpage, for exactly as long as this webpage chooses to show it.
All sales are final. You have no right to a refund, a return, a cancellation or a withdrawal, for any reason. The display slot is a digital good and it is delivered the instant your payment settles — usually within seconds of you paying. By buying it you expressly ask us to deliver it immediately, and you accept that any statutory right you might otherwise have had to cancel a digital purchase is used up once it has been delivered. There is no cooling-off period here and there is nothing to send back.
A bid that loses a simultaneous takeover is not refunded. If two payments land at the same moment, one of them takes the pixel and the other one does not — and the payment that does not take it is a completed sale all the same. You are charged in full and you receive nothing. What your money buys is the attempt, and the attempt is what you are paying for whichever way it goes. Clause 04 sets out how that happens; we tell you before you pay, on the bid form and on the payment page, and not afterwards.
We may still decide to refund a payment — for a duplicate charge, an obvious mistake, or because a person read your email and thought it was the right thing to do. That is a choice we are free to make and equally free not to make, one payment at a time. It is not a policy, it is not a right you have, and nothing on this page obliges us to do it.
Delivered immediately
Your slot goes live as soon as Stripe confirms your payment — usually within seconds. By buying, you ask for that delivery to begin immediately and you accept that any statutory right you may have to cancel a digital purchase ends once it has been delivered. There is nothing to ship and nothing to wait for.
Being outbid
Anybody can pay more than you at any moment, and they will. Every purchase is a separate, complete sale between that buyer and us at the price they paid. It is not a bid on your slot, you are not a party to it, and none of that money is yours.
When you are outbid you receive nothing: no refund, no share, no credit, no payout. Your name comes off the pixel and stays in the public sale history. Assume this will happen within minutes of your purchase, because it usually does. If that is not a thing you want to pay for, do not pay for it.
Simultaneous takeovers
Card payments settle asynchronously, so two people can pay at the same instant. When that happens, the payment that reaches our server first at a higher price takes the pixel. The other one does not, and a bid that loses a simultaneous takeover is not refunded. You are charged in full and you receive nothing.
That is the risk you are taking when you bid, and it is the reason we put it on the bid form and on the payment page as well as here. You are told before you pay, not afterwards. If you are not willing to lose the money, do not bid.
Your receipt page says which of the two happened to your payment, and it keeps saying it — the link works forever. If we do refund a bid, that page says so too, and the money appears on your statement within 5–10 business days depending on your bank, in full, with no fee deducted.
Sales are final
Nothing here is refunded automatically — not the losing side of a simultaneous takeover, not anything else. Once your slot has been displayed the sale is final: no refunds for changing your mind, for being outbid a second later, for not liking how it looked, or for having paid more than you meant to. Check the amount before you confirm it. It is on the button you press, and it is on the payment page after that.
Names are moderated
Every display name is public and moderated. We may edit, mask or remove any name at any time, at our sole discretion and without notice — including for harassment, slurs, impersonation, other people’s personal information, anything unlawful, and advertising we do not care for. A removed name is replaced with a placeholder, and removal does not entitle you to a refund.
Do not put anything in the name field that you would mind seeing on the internet permanently. The sale history is public and we do not promise to delete it.
We can stop at any time
We may change the minimum increment, pause sales, take the site down for a while, or end the auction permanently, at any time, without notice and without compensation. If we end it while you hold the pixel, you keep nothing — there is nothing to keep. Owning it has never meant anything more than being shown, and the showing can stop.
Payments, age, and the boring part
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. You must be old enough to enter into a binding contract where you live, and you must be using a payment method you are entitled to use.
The site is provided as-is, with no warranty of availability or fitness for anything. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for anything connected with this site is limited to the amount you actually paid us in the previous 30 days. Nothing in these terms removes a right you have that cannot legally be removed.
